about

The lyrics for “Rhinestones and Ruffles” come in three parts. The first part imagines someone out on the town who comes across someone interested in him. However, this interest is either not shared or is plainly a bad idea. The second part considers a situation where someone is neglecting another who is interested in him. Finally, in the last part we find someone who considers the lonely road their home, but who can’t escape their need for connection.

lyrics

"Rhinestones and ruffles
A belly full of wine
She’s begging you to love her
But your heart, well, she won’t find

Cue ball moon on the rise
Hungry eyes and a freckled face
Before promises broken
The first light of morning
Well, you’ve got to get out of this place

Black tie, black shoes
Where you going tonight?
Left her by the window staring
Worrying up such a fright

Dashboard lights, radio
Think the road is all you need
But it’s that line from Dubus you can’t refuse
We are, we are, we are
"
